For journalists
Brussels Record is a dated, sourced record of EU Chat Control: what is in force, what was decided when, and where each of the 27 governments stands. Our own work is free to quote and republish, with credit and a link.
What you can take from here
- EU Chat Control Tracker: what applies today, the timeline with every Council and Parliament document by number, and a changelog of every edit. Updated within 24 hours of every development; the date of the last check is on the page.
- The record today: what changed in the record, day by day, each line with a date and a source.
- Where the 27 governments stand: one row per government, each with the document behind it and the date it was last checked. Downloadable as CSV and JSON; each government also has its own page.
- Who decides, by name: the negotiators, ministers and rapporteurs, with the dates that decide next.
- Record notes: short dated entries on one document each (presidency notes 9659/26, 11956/26, 13158/26, the four-column tables), quoting the text rather than summarising it.
- Documents: the Council documents behind the record, newest first, with their status, where to read them and a page for the key ones.
How we work
Primary documents first: the Council register, EUR-Lex, the Parliament’s press room, national parliaments. When a document leaked, we say who published it. When there is only a press report, we say so: “Agence Europe reports”, “netzpolitik.org published”. A government’s label on the governments page changes only when a document or an on-the-record statement changes it; when the record no longer supports a label, the row says “Unclear” rather than guessing.
Corrections are made within 24 hours of the facts being confirmed, and the tracker and the governments page list every change with its date. If you find an error, write to us; we would rather hear it from you than from anyone else.
